How Elementary Schools are Welcoming Incoming Kindergarteners

All Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) elementary schools hosted the first of two kindergarten countdown events for all incoming kindergarteners and their parents.

The event was to help inform parents about what to expect on their student's first day of kindergarten and what the environment will be like.

Brad Cornis came to the meeting as a first-time QCUSD parent and appreciated the goals and objectives the schools offered.

"My daughter is very excited to start kindergarten," says Cornis. "I like the fact that there will be people around her all the time. I think one of the biggest fears as a parent, as they go off to school, and especially kindergarten, is you don't know where they are. So, it's good to know there are constantly people around that can watch them and take care of them and be there for them if there's an issue."

Most families who attended the kindergarten countdown have students currently enrolled in QCUSD schools. Diana Coletta has two kids currently in QCUSD schools and will have two more enrolling in kindergarten in the next school year. Coletta learned a lot about what to expect on the first day and how to prepare her kids for kindergarten, but she also says her current QCUSD students have positively impacted her incoming kindergarteners.

"They are pretty excited to play on the playground, to make friends, painting, and I think hearing their older siblings' experiences about PE and what they did in class is what they are most excited about," she said.

QCUSD is planning on hosting another kindergarten countdown event on April 21. Visit the Kindergarten page to learn more about QCUSD kindergarten.
